Montgomery County Joins WorkSource Montgomery’s Summer R.I.S.E. Program

County Organizations Connect with High School Students
through Career Shadowing

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will participate in a press conference today hosted by WorkSource Montgomery, Inc. in collaboration with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) and Montgomery County Government to announce the Summer R.I.S.E (Really Interesting Summer Experience) program. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic States Regional Administrative Offices on 2101 East Jefferson Street in Rockville.

This new initiative provides MCPS rising juniors and seniors with enriching summer career development experiences through local Montgomery County businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Through Summer R.I.S.E., students will participate in a three-week career exploration that will introduce them to the structures of businesses, technical skills for a wide range of industries, the role of technology, and the importance of customer service in every profession. Students will complete a career-readiness curriculum and learn about financial literacy through online and in-person professional training to help prepare them for college and beyond. A $300 stipend will be awarded to students who successfully complete the program. The County Government, MCPS, WorkSource Montgomery and many employers in Montgomery County have already made strong commitments to enhancing this fantastic opportunity.

The public is invited to hear from distinguished speakers and ask questions about an innovative program that will benefit students and Montgomery County.

Speakers include:

  • The Honorable Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett,
  • Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jack Smith
  • The Honorable, Montgomery County Councilmember Craig Rice
  • Vice President of Kaiser Permanente Human Resources Delinda H. Washington
  • CEO, WorkSource Montgomery Inc. Dr. Ellie Giles
  • Director of Summer R.I.S.E. William Jawando
