County 2047 Presentation
WESTMINSTER, MD, Friday,
October 20, 2017 - The Board of Carroll County Commissioners are hosting an event on
Thursday, October 26, 2017, which will highlight how future trends may impact
Carroll County. Futurist Dr. Jay Herson will address citizens and elected
officials at an event called ‘Carroll County, 2047’ at Carroll Community
College. The free event, originated by the Carroll County Board of
Commissioner’s Long Term Advisory Council will begin at 3:00 p.m. in room K100.
The event will have limited seating open to the public.
Dr.
Herson’s presentation will include:
• Several scenarios of what it will be
like to be living in Carroll County in 2047.
• Popular movies and science fiction
novels attempts at making 30-year predictions.
• Trends in the areas of
social/demographic, health, technology/science, environment and public safety, education and learning,
economics/business, politics and government.
• The mega trends of the future will be
seen to be: irrelevance of federal government, changes in nature of employment, climate change,
urbanization, demographic change, surveillance and automation.
• Challenges and opportunities for
Carroll County presented by the trends.
In
2047, the political leaders in Annapolis and Westminster and voters in Carroll
County and statewide, will be post-millennials, those born after 2000. This
cohort is alive today just entering post-secondary education. A profile of what
factors will develop for this group between now and 2047 and the implications
for the future of the county will be presented along with four scenarios for
Carroll County in 2047.
The
presentation will be live streamed on the county Facebook page and
will eventually be available for viewing on the Carroll County
Government Meeting Portal.
