REMINDER- District 5 Community Work Session with Commissioner Doug Howard


Thursday, October 12, 2017, Westminster, MD – Doug Howard, Carroll County Commissioner, District 5, will hold a community work session on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. This is a great opportunity for citizens to ask questions and share concerns, thoughts, and ideas with the Commissioner on how to accommodate community needs with already existing growth. All are welcome for the sole purpose of discussing what improvements could be made in the Freedom Area if additional funds became available. 

Topics for discussion: 
• Funding
• Infrastructure 
• Recreation 
• Safety (Public Safety) 
• Transit Shuttle 

The topic of the Freedom Plan will not be discussed at this meeting because, on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, the Board of County Commissioners remanded the Freedom Plan back to the Carroll County Planning and Zoning Commission.

More About Commissioner Howard

Doug Howard is in his second term as County Commissioner. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He has served on the boards of the Department of Social Services, the Chamber of Commerce, the South Carroll Business Association, and Change Inc. During his first term, Mr. Howard fought for veterans services in Carroll County, he established the Free Veterans’ Shuttle and the Veterans’ Service Council, created the Carroll Business Path to help small and emerging companies navigate their way to business success, established Celebrating America which is a history initiative promoting greater appreciation and understanding of American History, and spearheaded the Carroll 2030 effort to ensure that decisions made today are right for both the present and the future of Carroll County. He served as Board President for 3 years, represented the commissioners on the Board of Education, the Carroll Community College Board and the Committee on Aging and Disabilities. Mr. Howard has four daughters and two sons and lives in Sykesville.
