Statement from Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake on the Passing of Ms. Brenda J. Clayburn, CUB President

BALTIMORE, MD. (January 27, 2013)Today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake released the following statement following the passing of Ms. Brenda J. Clayburn, president of the City Union of Baltimore, which represents approximately 3,000 city employees.  Ms. Clayburn served as CUB president  for the last five years and worked for the city for nearly 43 years, most recently as an office supervisor in the Baltimore Police Department.

"I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Brenda Clayburn.  Brenda was a strong advocate for the thousands of city employees she represented, and she cared deeply for their welfare.  In all the years I had the chance to work with Brenda, she was a force to be reckoned with at the bargaining table, but she was also a kind-hearted public servant.

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with Brenda's family and close friends.  I know that thousands of  CUB members share a sincere debt of gratitude for her service."
