Our newest Indiana Historical Marker, Juliet V. Strauss, was installed on September 22. The dedication ceremony took place in Rockville outside "Grouch Place," Juliet V. Strauss's home. Strauss was a popular Hoosier columnist who worked to save the land that became Turkey Run State Park.

Fall Foliage and Markers
As you venture forth into the crisp autumn weather to ogle Indiana's beautiful fall foliage, don't forget to snap a few photos of historical markers along the way. You can submit images of Indiana State Historical Markers to our Flickr page
, where they will be used as part of our annual condition survey and inventory. If you love marker hunting, you might also want to get involved in Historical Markers of the US
, a nationwide photo pool for state, county, and local markers.
Marker hunter, Al Wolf of Veedersburg, IN wrote in this month to encourage fellow hunters and would be hunters to get involved: "My family and I have traveled all ninety-two counties of Indiana, securing and assisting others to secure documentation, photos, and up-loads" to the Historical Marker Database, where a new "Indiana Cemetery Heritage" marker series has been added to the Cemeteries and Burials category. Rockville Cemetery is the first of DHPA and IHB's Cemetery Heritage signs to be added. Al also shares valuable updates and photos of damaged State Historical Markers with IHB staff, and encourages people of all ages and interest levels to share their marker photos broadly with IHB, on HMDB, and in Flickr groups.
Author Marie Albertson talked about her book, Old Librarians Never Die They Jump Out of Airplanes: Adventuring Through the Senior Years in Indiana, at an October 4 book signing held at IHB (photo above). Dr. Alan Schmetzer and Dr. Lucy Jane King also spoke about their book, Dr. Edenharter's Dream. Click the image to see more photos of the event.
A limited number of autographed copies of her book and Dr. Edenharter's Dream, will be available in the IHB Book Shop while supplies last.
