Movie Set Becomes Real for One Actor

Crawfordsville-Yesterday at approximately 6:50 p.m. Crawfordsville Police Department responded to a 911 call of an apparent armed robbery in progress at a local bar.  Upon arrival of the police, a subject came out with a ski mask on carrying a handgun and a shot was fired by police.

The investigation by Master Trooper Detective Tim Kendall has revealed that a movie scene was being filmed at the Back Step Brewing Company on 125 North Green Street.  A 911 call came into dispatch of a possible armed robbery in progress at the bar. A subject was seen entering the bar wearing a ski mask and holding a gun. Police arrived shortly after receiving the call and saw a subject backing out of the door with the mask on and still holding the gun.

The officers allegedly advised the subject to drop the gun.  The subject turned towards the officers.  The officers felt their lives were in danger and fired at the suspect.  The subject dropped the gun and pulled off the mask while telling the officers this is a movie set.

No one was injured in the ordeal.  The film crew and other actors were inside at the time of the confrontation.  Neither the production company (Montgomery County Production) nor the bar owners notified police or local businesses of the filming of the scene.  The gun the subject was holding was a movie prop. The subject/actor, Jim Duff, was placed into custody until the story could be authenticated and then released.

The Indiana State Police out of the Lafayette Post were called by Crawfordsville Police Department at about 8:00 p.m. yesterday to investigate the shooting. Assisting Detective Kendall was Trooper Detective Ben Rector.  The investigation is continuing.

Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
