Golf Road sewer rehab
The city has contracted with Insituform Technologies USA, LLC (Insituform) to rehabilitate approximately 1,960 feet of 60” diameter brick sewer on Elgin (Golf) Road between Lincolnwood Drive and McCormick Boulevard. Initial work began Monday, April 29. Actual sewer liner installation and restoration work will run from May 6 to May 24 with some nighttime work involved.
The rehabilitation work includes installing a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner inside the existing sewer mains. This process is generally less disruptive and the work can be completed much faster than if the sewer were excavated and replaced. In order to facilitate the installation of the liner, a new manhole will be installed (east of Ewing).
The resins used in the lining process are not new. They are the same resins used in the fiberglass industry for many years. These resins contain a chemical called styrene that hardens when heated. Although styrene is not a pleasant odor, it is not dangerous at the levels at which residents may detect it.
The normal traffic pattern will resume by May 24, 2013.

Central Street status
Construction on Central Street is expected to be fully completed by the third week of June.
This project involves replacement of existing curbs, roadway base repair, asphalt surface from curb to curb and selected sidewalk and driveway aprons. Accessible ramps will also be built at the intersections. The existing sidewalk will be widened on the south side to improve pedestrian access. The roadway improvement work is part of the city’s continuous program to improve roadways throughout the community. There is no direct charge for abutting property owners.
Construction zone daytime “NO PARKING” restrictions will be intermittent throughout the duration of the project; evening and night time parking (5 p.m. to 7 a.m.) will always be available. Residents are asked to use legal street parking spaces on adjacent side streets for their street parking needs.
For more information, contact John Nero through 3-1-1. Other questions about street projects should be directed to Sat Nagar, P.E., Senior Engineer, at 3-1-1.
