Police Beat Meeting, April 17

police logo

Our Evanston Police Department’s Problem Solving Team officers have scheduled "beat" meetings this spring to update residents on local crime data, trends, and prevention, including neighborhood police deployment plans.  Come meet our Problem Solving Team officer, community strategies commander, and Chief Richard Eddington, and share your wisdom about how our police can improve the department's partnership with residents and address specific crime issues.  The beat meeting is also an opportunity to explore opportunities to set up neighborhood groups.

Wednesday, April 17, 7:00 pm for Beats 601 and 603, which include the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 7th Wards.

Evanston Public Library, 1703 Orrington Avenue, Large Community Room, 1st Floor

Call our police community strategies office at 847-866-5019 with questions about the beat meetings. To view a map of Problem Solving Team Beats, please click here>>>

The fair will take place both days from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston. There will be over 200 summer positions available; the majority of the jobs will be with the City of Evanston.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us fill a variety of roles on both days of the job fair.  Please help us make a difference in the lives of our youth, sign up today!

Spring Cleaning: Street Sweeping, Yard Waste Collection, Bulk Trash

sweeping zones

By now you've noticed that April 1 marked the beginning of the City’s street sweeping season, which ends in late November.  The street sweeping enables the Public Works Department to remove debris from street gutters so it doesn't accumulate in sewer basins and cause blockages and storm water backups.

The City's street sweeping schedules and corresponding parking regulations can be found here>>>

Yard waste collection has also begun, and will be picked up the same day as your garbage and recycling.  Use your yard waste container or the 30-gallon paper bags affixed with the yard waste sticker, which are available at local hardware and grocery stores.

City crews collect bulk trash twice a year, and the spring pick-up begins at the end of this month. Free pick-up is limited to six cubic yards of trash put out before 7:00 am. For more information on bulk trash days please, click here>>>

Trees: Removal, Stumps, Replacement

Our Forestry Division staff has identified over 400 trees on public property for removal, mostly due to infestation by the Emerald Ash Borer.  Over the next several months, crews will remove the infested or dead trees, as well as work on the backlog of over 600 stump removals and restore City parkways with new soil and grass seed where trees once stood.  The City intends to replace the trees, but the large number of tree removals since 2011 has slowed the pace of replanting.  Forestry Division staff secured grants in 2011 and 2012 to supplement our tree planting budget and we hope to obtain additional grant money this year.

I include here the list of trees scheduled from removal from our 7th Ward neighborhoods, with regret.
