Chicagoland’s Bike to Work Week 2012 is June 9-15. To celebrate biking as a healthy and green way to get around town, the Active Transportation Alliance is sponsoring a Bike Commuter Challenge. This event is free and encourages employees to bike all or part of the way to work at least once during the week. Whether it’s a short ride to the Metra station or the nearest bus stop, each trip counts.
“Bike to Work Week is a great reminder that air pollution, global climate change, traffic congestion and economic dependence on fossil fuels are all reduced by biking instead of driving; bicycling is a personal way one can help stop global climate change,” explained City of Evanston’s Sustainable Programs Coordinator Catherine Hurley. “Every time an Evanston resident uses a bike to commute to work they avoid putting needless pounds of CO2 emissions into the environment from their vehicle.” More>>>

Join us at the Noyes Cultural Arts Center, home of Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre, for this rivetingly performed drama, beautifully written by 2010-2011 3Arts fellow Marsha Estell, Evanston born, and resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists. The Evanston Police Department wants residents to be aware of a residential burglary pattern occurring in Evanston during the late evening to overnight hours. In all of the burglaries, entry was made through an unlocked window and items taken were laptop computers, purses, cameras and jewelry. It has also been reported to the Evanston Police Department that the Village of Skokie is experiencing residential burglaries of a similar pattern and time frame.
Residents are encouraged to make sure windows, doors and gates are properly locked at night; garbage cans and recycling containers should not be left in close proximity to windows. Shrubbery and bushes should not block window views and motion detection lights are highly recommended for doorways, garages and pathways. If you will be out of town, please have a neighbor or nearby friend/relative watch your residence. More>>>
