Downtown Evanston, the marketing and business management services organization for the downtown area, is pushing to bring the authentically Viennese coffee company Julius Meinl to downtown Evanston. If successful, this will be the fourth such coffee house in the Chicago area. The proposed site is the former Borders Bookstore, located at 1700 Maple Ave., which is part of the major mixed-use Church Street Plaza area managed by Arthur Hill and Co., LLC. Downtown Evanston has created a Facebook page in support of Julis Meinl opening up a coffee shop here in Evanston. Residents are encouraged to “like” the page and share it with others at www.facebook.com/BringJuliusMeinlToDowntownEvanston.
Carolyn Dellutri, Executive Director of Downtown Evanston said, “I visited the location on Southport and fell in love with it. I witnessed the crowd that Saturday morning while I waited in line to be seated and was so impressed with it! I truly enjoyed the hot chocolate made with Meinl European Cocoa, and the baked eggs with tomato, basil, goat cheese, spinach, mushroom and swiss. On my way out I noticed a poster that promoted live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. As Downtown Evanston works to create an Arts & Entertainment district, I feel this would be an excellent addition to the mix of nightlight. The location that we are looking to have them locate will also have excellent outdoor dining space!” More>>>
