 The City of Evanston, in association with PEER Services of Evanston, will be participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Prescription Drug Take-back Day on April 28, 2012. The Evanston event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the west parking lot of James Park (at Dodge Ave. at Brummel St.). This is a great opportunity for those who have accumulated unwanted, unused prescription and over the counter drugs to safely dispose of those medications.  To improve on-time performance and identify more clearly the locations where buses will stop, Pace is in the process of converting some selected fixed routes to Posted Stop Only service. Beginning May 13, 2012, Pace Route 250, starting at Evanston’s Davis Street CTA station and ending at O’Hare Airport, will be converted to Posted Stops Only service along the entire route. This means that buses will stop to pick up and drop off passengers only at locations with Pace bus stop signs. More>>>

 Evanston Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (ESAPC) will be visiting local stores that sell alcohol on May 11, 2012 to place stickers on doors and alcoholic beverages warning of the dangers of adults buying alcohol for minors as part of their annual participation in the Sticker Shock campaign.
“The Evanston Liquor Control Board is proud to support ESAPC in their efforts to help reduce underage drinking in our community,” said Evanston Mayor and Liquor Control Commissioner Elizabeth Tisdahl. “According to the CDC, alcohol use by persons under 21 is a major public health problem. The consequences of underage drinking by our youth creates problems in school with attendance and poor grades, social problems, legal problems, health problems, alcohol-related car crashes, and more.” More>>>

 The Ridgeville Park District's Famers' Market in south Evanston is Evanston's only weeknight market, open Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is located at 908 Seward St. Evanston residents can take advantage of their "Buy Local" Pre-ordering program and even have the option of either picking up their orders or having them delivered.  April brings with it spring cleaning. The City of Evanston can help you get rid of that unwanted orange plaid sofa that you've had taking up space in your basement since the 1970s. The city will be offering the free removal of six cubic yards of bulk garbage this spring. The Evanston Public Library (EPL) is hosting free educational programs to celebrate El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) on Monday, April 30, 2012, in the morning and after-school hours at both the Main Library (1703 Orrington Avenue) and the North Branch Library (2026 Central Street). The Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market will celebrate its 37th year when it opens on Sat., May 5. The market will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday through early November. Fifty-one vendors will sell a wide variety of goods, including fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items. The Downtown Market is located at University Pl. and Oak Ave., behind the Hilton Garden Inn. Parking is free at the adjacent 1800 Maple garage. Other Evanston markets begin later this spring. A wide variety of fun free activities will take place during Children’s Day from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center, 1655 Foster St. The Jesse White Tumblers are scheduled to appear at 3:30 p.m. The event is geared toward children age 2-13 years accompanied by a parent.
