Afternoon Attic Fire Displaces Residents
EVANSTON, IL - At 4:41 p.m., Saturday, July 11, Evanston fire companies were dispatched to a two story single family home in the 3200 block of Park Pl, for the report of heavy smoke coming from the roof.
The first arriving company was on location within three minutes of the dispatch, reporting heavy smoke coming from the Attic. Engine 25 crew initiated an interior attack finding a working fire in the Attic. It took several Evanston fire companies to deploy two working hose lines in order to effectively extinguish the fire, confining the fire to the area of origin. The working fire response was quickly upgraded to a box alarm bringing in other communities to assist with the incident and weather related issues.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but It appears the fire started at the roof where roofing contractors were making repairs. There were no reported civilian injuries, but one firefighter was transported to a local hospital for heat exhaustion. Due to the extensive water damage from firefighting operations the family will be displaced for the evening.
