New Date for the 7th Ward Meeting - Sept. 28

The next 7th Ward meeting has been rescheduled to Thurs., Sept. 28 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ecology Center multi-purpose room, 2024 McCormick Blvd. Topics on the tentative agenda include Evanston's new Equity Plan, Evanston Fire Department services, and a preview of the 2018 Sheridan Rd. Improvement Project (for Sheridan Road between Lincoln Street and the Wilmette border).

Watch for more details in early September.

Movie in the Park at Ryan Field - July 20

NU Movie Night at Ryan Field

Bring the whole family to Ryan Field,1501 Central St., on Thurs., July 20, for a showing of The Secret Life of Pets. The quiet life of a terrier named Max is upended when his owner takes in Duke, a stray whom Max instantly dislikes. Gates open at 6:15 p.m. and the movie begins at 7 p.m. This event is free to the public.

Northwestern University Community Picnic July 22

Everyone is invited to NU’s annual Community Picnic! The event is on Sat., July 22 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Norris University Center's East Lawn, 1999 Campus Dr. Bring the whole family and enjoy free food and entertainment. If it happens to rain, the festivities will move inside Norris Center. Please RSVP by Wed., July 19.

Parking Options for "Run for Walk" - July 30

NU Run to Walk

On Sun., July 30 beginning at 6 a.m., NU Athletics will host the 6th annual Run for Walk, a 4.1-mile run and 5K family walk through Evanston's tree-lined streets and along NU's campus, in memory of former head football coach, Randy Walker. The race starts at Ryan Field, proceeds south on Jackson and east on Lincoln, around the campus and back to Ryan Field.

To accommodate the event, there will be no parking Sunday morning from 6:00-10:00 a.m. on Jackson, from Central to Lincoln, and on Lincoln, from Jackson to Sheridan. Those affected by these restrictions are welcome to park in the Ryan Field West Parking Lot, from 5:00pm on Saturday, July 29, through 5:00pm on Sunday, July 30.

Canal Shores Eco-Plan Update - Aug. 17

Community members are invited to a presentation on the work thus far on developing a habitat restoration and land use plan for the Canal Shores Golf Course. The meeting will be held on Thurs. Aug. 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 2nd floor, 1030 Central St. 

The presentation will include a review of baseline data collected (tree inventory, wildlife inventory, and wetland delineation) and preliminary design concepts for both habitat restoration and passive recreation. After the presentation, we will break into small groups to examine the design concepts in more detail and provide feedback.

We will also have an update on the North Shore Channel Habitat Project.

World Chicago Homestay Program

World Chicago will host over 30 international emerging leaders for short-term educational and cultural exchange programs this summer sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Groups coming to the area will include high school students and young professionals. All participants stay with local families to learn more about American culture.

World Chicago is seeking host families for these programs: July 20-26 (young members of Parliament from Ukraine); July 20-August 3 (Iraqi high school students); August 13-21 (U.K youth). For more information, please contact Brian Peckrill at or 312-254-1800 x100.
