Around
9 PM on Tuesday, 1/19, the EPD received a call about gunfire heard in the 1300
block of Darrow. Cops arriving at the scene discovered 20 year-old Bejamin Bradford-Mandujano
shot in the head and back. He was taken to Evanston Hospital where he was
pronounced dead. EPD detectives and the
North Regional Major Crime Task Force are investigating and reaching out to the
public for any information about the case.
Anonymous tips can be texted to 274637 (CRIMES).
Eight
businesses in a strip mall on the 1100 block of Emerson were burglarized
between 1/15 and 1/17. Cops theorize that an unlocked access door provided a
burglar or burglars with a means of entry, using a pry tool to enter the rear
entrances of the commercial tenants there.
Electronic equipment and tools were stolen from five businesses.
Now,
the rest of the news.
Deployment Meeting - January 20, 2016
Past Week:·
- On 1/14 the EPD received a call about suspicious persons checking car
doors in the 1100 block of Dobson. Two
teens matching the description of the suspects were stopped by the police. Several hours later, the same pair was
apprehended attempting to break into a residence in the 1900 block of Asbury.
They were taken into custody and charged.
- On 1/16, two stolen vehicles were recovered; one with a bullet hole and
two flat tires in the 1900 block of Keeney and the other in the 2000 block of
Sherman.
- PST officers attended the Martin Luther King Day celebration at
Fleetwood-Jourdain on 1/16.
- There were two residential burglaries reported during the deployment
period. Between 1/15 and 1/16, an
offender entered an unlocked residence in the 2000 block of Pratt Court and stole
electronics, a backpack, its contents and keys for a Honda CR-V. On 1/18, a burglar entered a residence in
the 1700 block of Dodge through a broken window and stole a 32” television.
- Frigid weather may have had an impact on motor vehicle burglaries, but
there were still four during the period – three on 1/14 in the 1000 block of
Dobson and one on 1/15 in the 1700 block of Seward. All vehicles were unlocked. In two of the break-ins, a laptop, a backpack
with contents and a cell phone charger were stolen.
- Even in a hospital: An unattended laptop attracted a thief on 1/16.
- Sergeant Tracy Williams reported that 46 citations were issued by the
Traffic Bureau during the week, including one DUI arrest.
Please keep your questions coming. Send them to Commander Diane Davis and we’ll do our best to get you the answers. If you put In The Squad Room in the subject line, they’ll find their way to me.
Looking Ahead:
- The EPD will continue to focus attention on these locations: the
Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, local banks, schools, transit stations and
known gang hotspots, along with ETHS dismissals, the downtown area for
panhandling and the EPL and other addresses for homeless complaints.
- They’ll be there: PST Officers will join residents and dignitaries on
1/23 at a neighborhood walk in the 1300 block of Darrow. On 1/21, they’ll attend Fifth Ward and Live
in Peace meetings and on 1/22, the Teen Jam at Fleetwood-Jourdain.
