~Thousands of students to participate in Earth Day celebration~

TALLAHASSEE – Earth Day at the Capitol will showcase support and emphasize the significance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in today's school systems. On April 19 government officials, agency heads and more than 1,200 students will gather at the Capitol for the festivities.

The Capitol event will host a variety of STEM mini-challenges for students, including water-rocket launches and more. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding between the Florida departments of Environmental Protection, Education, Health and Sustainable Florida to increase interest in the Florida Green Schools Network will be signed.

The event will take place:

11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Friday April 19

Florida Capitol Courtyard

Tallahassee

The Department will also be participating in other events throughout the state to celebrate the significance of STEM in schools across the state. From guided wading trips through Estero Bay to face painting and wildlife handlers in Crystal River Preserve, this year there is an Earth Day event suitable for everyone.
