FLORIDA PARK SERVICE TO HOLD PUBLIC WORKSHOP ON PROPOSED BOUNDARY MODIFICATION FOR THE FLORIDA HORSE PARK

~ Workshop is scheduled to solicit public comment about proposed change to park, located on South Highway 475 in Ocala.~

OCALA  The Florida Park Service will hold a public workshop from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  on Aug. 29 in Ocala to gather input on a proposed change to the boundary of the sublease held by the Florida Department of Agriculture and the Florida Horse Park Authority within the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. The workshop will be held at the North Hall Auditorium at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion in Ocala.
A boundary change for the Florida Horse Park has been proposed for the purpose of protecting and providing public enjoyment of a very large live oak tree located in the southwestern corner of the property. This tree was determined by the Florida Forest Service to meet the requirements for a Florida Champion Tree, a program that recognizes the largest tree of each species within the state. The proposed boundary change would remove the property surrounding the tree from the Florida Horse Park boundary and incorporate it into the boundary of the Cross Florida Greenway.  In order to maintain the acreage of the Florida Horse Park at the maximum 500 acres authorized in the statute, an 18-acre parcel would be removed from the Cross Florida Greenway boundary and placed into the Florida Horse Park.
