DEP DIVISION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER SELECTED AS 2011 ASSESSOR OF THE YEAR

Chief Ron Cave speaks at a conference of the State Law Enforcement Chiefs' Association. Cave was named 2011 Assessor of the year by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation.
TALLAHASSEE -- Ron Cave, Chief of the Office of Training and Professional Standards of the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Law Enforcement, has been selected as 2011 Assessor of the Year by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement
Accreditation.
“Chief
Ron Cave is very deserving of this recognition,” said DEP Division of Law
Enforcement Assistant Director Greg Gibson. “He exemplifies professionalism and
dedication to duty, and I am proud of his acknowledgment by the commission.”
The
2011 Assessor of the Year Award honors
an individual who demonstrates extraordinary support and leadership in
furthering the commission’s goals of assessing agencies fairly and
effectively in their career. The award nominee is
critiqued in the areas of leadership, quality and consistently of work product,
coaching and mentoring assessors and accreditation managers, and promoting
cooperation and communication with candidate agency members, onsite assessment
teams and commission staff. Cave will receive the award at a ceremony June 28 in Bonita Springs.
In his work with the Division of Law Enforcement, Cave led
and organized the work of the accreditation team from October to December 2009 and saw the division through an assessment to successful accreditation of the division. Based on experience and training, Cave is an assessor and team leader for the commission, attending about 10 on-site assessments per year dealing with accreditation at various state and local law enforcement agencies.
Cave previously served with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation's Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, rising to the rank of captain. He has been employed as an investigator, deputy sheriff, police officer, correctional officer and communications officer, having served in public service for the last 17 years. He is Chairman of the Criminal Justice
Standards and Training Commission’s Region 15 and President of the State Law Enforcement
Chiefs' Association.
Cave will supervise the accreditation unit when he and the Division of Law Enforcement move July 1 to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission due to the passing of House Bill 1383 into law.
