Spring seems to have finally arrived, so let's get outside for some social and service activities this month. We hope you will join us for our Bio-Med Book Club, Happy Hour fundraiser benefitting NIH Charities, the DC Cares Servathon, and 5K run/walk for public service recognition week. See you there!

 

Bio-Med Book Club Dinner Discussion (4/8)

Join the Bio-Med Book Club on April 8, 2013 to discuss Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers (4th edition which has extra content) by Robert Sapolsky. Whether you’ve read the book or are just interested in the topic, come on out for what’s sure to be an interesting discussion!

When: Monday, April 8, 2013, 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Where: Lebanese Taverna, 933 Ellsworth Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Fundraiser Benefitting NIH Charities (4/18)

Join us at a charity fundraiser to support the Children's Inn, Friends of the Clinical Center, and Special Love. Tickets for this event are $20, which includes raffle and drink tickets, and will be available at the event. There will be live music and a raffle with great prizes. Join us for a great time with members of the NIH Community and many others.

When: Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm

Where: 4935 Bar & Kitchen (formerly Tragara), 4935 Cordell Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814 (directions from Bethesda Metro)

What: Charity fundraiser to support NIH Charities. Complimentary appetizers, drink specials, and the "Special Love Cocktail" revenue goes directly to Special Love.

DC Cares Servathon (4/27)

YGL-B is putting a team together for the 2013 HandsOn Greater DC Cares Servathon. Join HandsOn Greater DC Cares and nearly 10,000 corporate and community volunteers for the Washington region's largest and most exciting days of community impact!  On April 27, members of our community will unite in service to area schools, nonprofits, libraries, and recreation centers, all the while raising critical funds to support volunteer work all year long.                         

When: Saturday, April 27, 2013, 9:00am - 1:00pm
                                            
Where: TBD - project selection begins in early April.

What: Volunteers will complete hands-on projects at area nonprofits and schools. They will paint, plant, build, and save area nonprofits and schools hundreds of thousands of dollars.
                                            
Why: To make the region a better and brighter place.
                                            
How: Sign up for the YGL-B team here. There is a $25 registration fee to help cover supplies and programming costs for the day.

5K Run/Walk for Public Service Recognition Week (5/5)

Need a good excuse to exercise for a good cause? Each year, DC celebrates Public Service Recognition Week with lots of fun activities downtown. Come run or walk with YGL-B friends!

When: Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 8:00am (arrive at 7:30am)

Where: Anacostia Park (near the Skating Pavilion); Anacostia Drive, SE Washington, DC
...Plus, an after-party in the area! 

Cost: $20 Government, $25 Non-Government, $15 Student

How: Register HERE as an individual and pay online. Enter "YGL-Bethesda" as the team name. Wear your YGL-Bethesda t-shirt if you have one! If not, we'll have some onsite to sell for $10.
