Initiative 30 Deemed Sufficient

“Use and Regulation of Marijuana” will appear on November ballot

Denver, Colorado – Today Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced that proposed Initiative 30 concerning Use and Regulation of Marijuana” was found to be sufficient as required by statute.

On January 4, 2012, the proponents of proposed Initiative 30 submitted 163,632 petition signatures to the Secretary of State. A five percent random sample review of the signatures projected the number of valid signatures to be less than 110 percent but more than 90 percent of the total number of signatures required for placement on the ballot. Under state law, the Secretary ordered a line-by-line review of every signature submitted. Following the line-by-line review, the Secretary declared the petition insufficient on February 3.

On February 17, the proponents submitted an additional 14,151 signatures to cure the insufficiency. Upon review, the Secretary of State has determined that a sufficient number of valid signatures have been submitted and the proposed initiative should be certified to the November 6, 2012, General Election ballot. Under Colorado law, and barring a successful protest, the initiative will be numbered “Amendment 64.”
