Pickup vs. Bicyclist Crash at McCaslin & Indiana in Superior, CO

Bicyclist sustains serious injuries after collision with pickup truck

Boulder County, Colo. - On Friday, October 20, 2017 at approximately 6:00pm, the Boulder County Communications Center received 911 calls about a vehicle versus bicyclist crash that occurred near the intersection of McCaslin Boulevard and South Indiana Street, located in the Town of Superior, Boulder County, Colorado. The bicyclist, a 31-year-old male resident of Louisville, CO was travelling downhill, northbound on McCaslin Boulevard, when he collided with a black 2014 Dodge Ram pickup. The pickup truck was travelling southbound on McCaslin Boulevard and turning eastbound onto South Indiana Street when the collision occurred.

Witnesses reported the injuries to the bicyclist as traumatic. The driver of the pickup truck stopped immediately and remained at the scene, and is cooperating with investigators. The bicyclist was transported to an area hospital for treatment, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The Town of Superior contracts their law enforcement services through the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), which is the primary investigating agency for this incident. Due to the severity and complexity of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office requested mutual aid from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP). Investigators from CSP’s Accident Reconstruction Team (ART) came to the scene to assist with measurements, diagramming, and other investigative duties. At this time, no charges have been filed, as the circumstances surrounding the crash are still being actively investigated.

Traffic in the area will be impacted for the next few hours due to road closures as investigators complete their work.
