Ward 2 Update

Ward 2 prepares for the end of the school year with many UCR students getting ready for graduation day. Hotels will be filled and restaurants will be busy with many visitors from out of town. The UCR medical school is also preparing to welcome its first students in 16 weeks. The Medical School has been long awaited by many Riverside residents and UCR students. Congratulations go out to Dr. Olds and Chancellor White for their strong commitment and dedication to opening the medical school. The C-Center at UCR Request for Qualifications (RFQ) has been sent out and we are now waiting for interested parties to submit their qualifications. It is anticipated that this first step in the process will be completed by November 2013. The second step will be to send out the Request for Proposal (RFP) where the applicants will provide a conceptual plan for the center. It is expected that the C-Center will be a 5,000-6,000 seat multi-use area. I’ll keep you informed of its progress.

The interpretive center at Sycamore Canyon Park will be named after Ameal Moore past Ward 2 City Council Member. It is expected that the center will be completed in the next 90 days. It will be enjoyed by many children and adults once opened. The center will give the visitor information on indigenous plants and habitat in the park.

We are just around the corner from celebrating Cinco de Mayo (5th of May) in Riverside. The celebration will take place in my home area of Casa Blanca in Riverside. This has been celebrated for over 100 years in the area. They sell amazing home made Mexican food and celebrate by inviting local talent and playing traditional Mexican music. Come join the fun and share in this rich tradition.

Artnival is just around the corner. It will take place in mid-June 2013 at John North Park (located next to Spaghetti Factory). Artnival is a combine event that combines art with a carnival. It will include games, food, art, circus routines and much more. Come out and visit us in Ward 2 for diverse and exciting events.

I hope to see you soon!!!
