Plymouth High School Student First Repeat Poetry State Champion

Emma Libersky (left), a student from Plymouth High School, Plymouth, Indiana, won top honors in the 2014 Indiana Poetry Out Loud State Finals. Libersky was chosen from a field of 18 finalists from Indiana schools participating in this year's competition held February 22 at the Central Branch of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, Indianapolis. She becomes the first repeat State Champion in the eight year history of the competition. Daniel Robinson, Pike High School, Indianapolis, Indiana was the First Runner-Up, and Ming Washington, LaLumiere School, LaPorte, Indiana was Second Runner-Up. Robinson was Second Runner-Up in the 2013 Poetry Out Loud State Finals. Libersky receives a $200 cash prize and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in late April. Indianapolis Opera Singers Teach Greensburg Students

About 200 Greensburg Elementary School students recently learned important lessons about diversity, tolerance and kindness through the performances by four singers and their accompanist from the Indianapolis Opera.

The performance included songs from famous operas including "The Barber of Seville," by Giocchino Rossini, "Die Fledermaus," by Johann Strauss, and "The Pirates of Penzance," by Gilbert and Sullivan. Lyrics from the songs had been altered to fit the presentation's theme.

"Hidden Talents: Celebrating Abilities Through Exposition" Art Expo to Showcase Talents of Those With Autism

The HANDS in Autism Interdisciplinary Training and Resource Center has announced a new event titled, "Hidden Talents: Celebrating Abilities Through Exposition" Art Expo. The event will showcase the art and special talents of individuals on the autism spectrum throughout the state of Indiana. Solicited art will represent a variety of media from a variety of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The event will take place in the new Simon Family Tower, with an opening reception to be held April 21, 2014. The opening ceremony will include presentations from the artists as well as other community members and an opportunity to mingle among the art and to gain awareness about ASD. The expo will continue to be open for self-guided viewing and brief scheduled events April 22 and 23 as well. Bloomington Radio Station Seeks Artists, Performers and Writers with Disabilities

WFIU, the Bloomington-based public radio station, is launching a year-long series focusing on artists across the state who are living with disabilities of all kinds. The series launched in February with a story about a unique drama therapy program that has brought adults with intellectual disabilities together with other members of the community in the production I Am You, which debuted early this month at the Bloomington Playwrights Project. The series will comprise 12 different stories that explore the intersection of the arts and disabilities. Like other locally produced arts content, these stories will be broadcast on WFIU during Morning Edition, Performance Today, and All Things Considered. The features will be archived with expanded audio content, along with pictures and text, on the station's website at www.wfiu.org/arts. WFIU will also make the features available for broadcast among the Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations network. Working with experts in the field - including those at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, the Indiana Arts Commission, and VSA Indiana - WFIU  Arts producers are seeking to identify artists across the state who are living with disabilities of all kinds, and who continue to work with them. The producers will be casting a broad net across the state and across genres, from the visual arts to music, theatre, literature, dance, design and beyond. The call for nominations for the 2014 Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award will be open until March 21, 2014. The award is a program of the Indianapolis Public Library Foundation and recognizes the contributions of Indiana authors to the literary landscape in Indiana and across the nation. Any published writer who was born in Indiana or has lived in Indiana for at least five consecutive years is eligible for nomination. In addition to a cash prize, each author's hometown library will receive a grant of $2,500 from the Library Foundation. Noted Children's Author to Present 2014 Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture

Families and individuals of all ages are invited as bestselling children's author and illustrator David Wiesner will present the 2014 Marian McFadden Memorial Lecture Friday, April 4, 2014 at 7 p.m. at North Central High School, 1801 E. 86th St., Indianapolis. Weisner is a three-time recipient of the prestigious Caldecott Medal for picture book illustration, for Tuesday (1992), The Three Pigs (2002), and Flotsam (2006). He is only the second person to be a three-time winner of the Caldecott Medal. Two of Weisner's other books, Sector 7 and FreeFall, were named Caldecott Honor Books. His newest book is Mr. Wuffles! Among other honors, Weisner received the Japan Picture Book Award for Tuesday, the French Prix Sorcieres for The Three Pigs, and the Banco del Libro for Flotsam. He was the United States' nominee and and a finalist for the 2008 Hans Christian Andersen Award. Indiana Artisan Marketplace to Showcase State's Best Art, Food

From mosaics and marshmallows to watercolors and wines, the Indiana Artisan Marketplace features one-of-a-kind handmade work by nearly 150 artisans. The 2014 Indiana Artisan Marketplace will launch the state's 2014 art season March 29 and 30 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Expo Hall. More than 100 artisans from Indiana will again be joined by an additional 50 from Kentucky to showcase art and food selected as the best by food and art jury panels created by Indiana Artisan and Kentucky Crafted. New this year: 20 art and food artisans will demonstrate the creation of their work - potters throwing, painters painting, weavers weaving, and some exciting looks at candy making are just a glimpse of what is in store when the state's high-quality artisans come together again for this event. The Portland Center of Arts Place is issuing an open call for exhibition proposals. Arts Place is seeking innovative proposals from artists in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. Call for TAF Artists, Art at the Park, West Lafayette, IN
Tippecanoe Arts Federation (TAF) is partnering with Purdue Baseball and the Purdue Fan Experience to present "Art at the Park" Tuesday, May 12, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. at the Purdue Baseball game against Indiana State at Alexander Field. Artists will be required to attend the event with free admission. Artists will be provided with one covered table and may provide their own tent if they choose. Tents should not exceed 8 feet by 8 feet in size. Sales will not be conducted at this event, however artists are strongly encouraged to bring marketing materials for potential clientele. The event will be held rain or shine, however indoor space will be provided for artists if there is rain. Artists must be members of TAF. Any work will be accepted. 2014 Princess Grace Award Applications
The Princess Grace Foundation - USA has announced the availability of applications for the 2014 Princess Grace Awards in Theater, Playwriting, Dance Performance, and Choreography. All applications and guidelines may be found at www.pgfusa.org. Theater awards are given in the form of scholarships, fellowships, and apprenticeships. The Playwriting Award included a residency at New Dramatics, and opportunity for the winning play to be licensed and published by Samuel French. Postmarked deadline is March 31, 2014. Dance Performance Awards are administered as scholarships and fellowships, and Choreography Awards present emerging choreographers the opportunity to create a new work with organizations with which they have little experience. Call for Public Art, Downtown Lafayette Cultural District, Lafayette, IN
The City of Lafayette in cooperation with Regions Bank is seeking proposals for a public art piece to install early Fall 2014 on the site of the Bank's new building in downtown Lafayette. One piece of artwork, either existing or commissioned, will be selected by the Public Art Committee with the goal of adding it to the city's permanent exterior public art collection. Only artwork available for purchase will be considered. Artists are encouraged to be creative in their design and selection of materials while considering safety and maintenance common to publicly accessible works of art. Project budget for the selected work is up to $8,000. Proposals submitted must be for sale and include asking price. Call for Central Indiana Artists, Gallery 924, Indianapolis, IN
Gallery 924 seeks entries from central Indiana artists for a Contemporary Landscape Group Show. Work should explore the evolution of the traditional Indiana landscape (read Hoosier Group). Work may reference or pay homage to the more traditional landscapes Indiana is known for, but should be a contemporary work that moves far beyond what comes to mind when thinking of "landscape paintings." All media, disciplines, sizes, and styles are welcome. Non-visual artists are encouraged to submit as well; including, but not limited to musicians, writers, dancers, etc. All central Indiana artists 18 and older are welcome to submit. For this show, central Indiana is considered to be Marion County and the seven surrounding counties. Up to five images, 72 dpi and around 800 pixels in any direction, or file size less than 1MB will be accepted. Images should be formatted for Slideroom, CaFE or similar websites. Auditions Planned for Center Stage Production of Children of Eden, Indianapolis, IN
Center Stage Productions, Indianapolis, presents open auditions for Children of Eden Sunday, May 18th, and Monday, May 19, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the theatre, located at 1427 Southview Drive, Indianapolis, IN 46227.
