Elk hunters reminded of season date change

LARAMIE –Hunters with general elk licenses are reminded that elk season does not open until Oct. 15 in hunt areas 9 and 10.

For the past few years this season has opened on Oct. 1. However, changes were implemented for the 2015 hunting season to align the dates with other general hunt areas and as a result of input from hunters. “This change was to address complaints from hunters about crowding during deer season,” said Laramie Wildlife Biologist Lee Knox. “A different opening date should alleviate some of that pressure by separating deer and elk hunters as well as better distributing elk hunters on both sides of the Snowy Range.”

The 2015 general season in elk hunt areas 9 and 10 opens Oct. 15 and runs through Oct. 31.  Hunters should note the season is open for any elk, with the exception of spikes.

Hunters are reminded to read the 2015 elk hunting regulations and be certain of your season’s opening date before going into the field. If you have any questions please call the Laramie Region Game and Fish office at (307) 745-4046.
