Secretary Scocos Announces Operation Welcome Home

As our nation continues to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs would like to recognize the Vietnam and Vietnam-era veterans who call Wisconsin home.

“We must never forget what we as a nation learned from the Vietnam War,” WDVA Secretary John A. Scocos said. “This is a time to remember the scars of battle and the service and sacrifice of our veterans. We now honor these brave men and women with the welcome home they deserved 50 years ago, but did not receive.”

The President of the United States has declared May 28, 2012, through Nov. 11, 2025, as the Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. Governor Scott Walker is committed to recognizing veterans from all eras and has designated the WDVA as the lead agency for commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War.

Last year Secretary Scocos was pleased to appoint Medal of Honor recipient Gary Wetzel and former WDVA Secretary Ray Boland as co-chairs of Wisconsin’s Vietnam War Commemoration Committee. The two year commemoration will be named Operation Welcome Home and will consist of events throughout the state.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice to your country and WELCOME HOME!
