The Wisconsin National Guard’s 54th Civil Support Team will conduct a training event in Milwaukee Sept. 9 and 11.

The unit will be conducting a training efficiency evaluation, which it carries out every 18 months, to validate its readiness to respond to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or environmental disaster at the state or national level.

The exercise will test the team’s ability to assess a hazard and respond utilizing all of its equipment and capabilities.

The 54th CST is the Wisconsin National Guard’s full-time response team for emergencies or terrorist events that involve weapons of mass destruction, toxic industrial chemicals or natural disasters. The unit is able to rapidly deploy, assist local first-responders in the determining the nature of an attack and provide medical, communications and technical support and advice.

Due to the nature of the training scenario, the Wisconsin National Guard will not make the exact training location known publically. News media interested in covering either day’s training should contact the Wisconsin National Guard Public Affairs Office at 608-242-3050.
