This past week, OSPI met with multiple CACFP Sponsors and other key stakeholders to discuss best practices and guidance for re-opening and continuing care safely during the pandemic. We are working to create a framework for ensuring children’s access to meals, providing technical assistance, and maintaining safety in your programs.
During our meeting we met with the Department of Health and the Department of Children, Youth, and Families to get a better understanding of the steps they are implementing and requiring for service to continue.
Over the next several weeks we will share the findings from this work group in CNS Updates, please keep an eye out in our weekly newsletters.
This webinar series will provide current, accurate information and resources to program operators to mitigate risk of foodborne illness and COVID-19 transmission through the service of meals in Child Nutrition Programs.

Did You Miss Webinar #1?
The first webinar, "The Safe Food Handler" provided the basics of food safety and COVID-19; personal hygiene including proper use of gloves, masks, and aprons; cleaning, sanitizing and disinfecting; and social distancing. Watch or download the webinar here.
The USDA's Team Nutrition recently released several resources to help while operating during the COVID outbreak:
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, USDA issued waivers to allow State Agencies administering the CACFP and other child nutrition programs to complete desk reviews in lieu of conducting onsite reviews.
This has allowed us to make changes to our administrative review process to accommodate public health guidelines and to provide necessary social distancing by not visiting sponsors or sites in person.
During this webinar, we will review:
- What a desk review is
- What do you need to do to prepare for a desk review
- The steps to a desk review
- What you'll need to gather and submit for a successful review
