See you on Wednesdays at 2pm! Please keep an eye out for future CNS Updates for any changes or cancellations.
During last week's update call, we discussed responsible principal(s) requirements for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).
Responsible principal does not refer to a school principal necessarily, rather it’s the responsible individual(s) for the program.
The names and birthdates of the Signer of the Agreement, SFSP Contact, and SFSP Claim Contact must be provided. For a school district, these individuals may be the Food Service Director, Superintendent, Business Manager, or other school officials. For other organizations, these individuals may be a board member, owner, executive director, or administrator.
Per SFSP regulations, the State Agency must not approve a sponsor to operate the SFSP, in which the institution and/or the responsible principals have been placed on the National Disqualified List (NDL) or been previously named terminated from a Child Nutrition Program.
Even though your organization may already operate a USDA Child Nutrition Program, this information must be validated annually prior to application.
To confirm those who hold a management position or are responsible for SFSP operation are not on the National Disqualified List, OSPI must collect the names and birthdates for the Responsible Principal(s). We collect this information using the Electronic Application Checklist.
If you have additional questions, please contact your program specialist.
On May 19, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released 2 new Q&A's. These memos review common questions during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

OSPI has released a Reopening Washington Schools: State & District Planning for Fall 2020 document outlining the next steps. This information was shared with all school district superintendents on May 19.
The task force is currently planning small group meetings that will be held in the coming weeks. Upcoming task force meetings will help finalize guidance and resources. The turnaround of this information will be quick so it is available to school districts prior to mid-June.
The Reopening Washington Schools 2020–21 Workgroup webpage is now available; please visit this page for resources and updates.

If your organization did not operate SFSP in summer 2019 AND is transitioning to "traditional" summer programming - you must participate in the SFSP preapproval webinar.
This webinar will help us ensure your program is ready to operate the SFSP before we approve your application for the program.
At least one lead administrator from each new sponsoring organization must participate in the webinar and complete a short phone interview. Completing these steps will ensure you have everything you need to operate the program successfully.
Register Here Date: Thursday, June 4, 2020 Time: 1 - 2pm PT
Your individual phone interview will be scheduled following your participation in the webinar.
Have questions? Can’t make it to the scheduled webinar? Contact us at summermeals@k12.wa.us.
The USDA granted a nationwide waiver for the on‐site portion of the site review in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). However, sponsors are still required to conduct their site reviews off‐site to the maximum extent practicable.
The goal of the site review is to ensure that sites are operating in compliance with federal regulations.
OSPI CNS created the SFSP site review form for sponsors completing reviews during unanticipated school closures and is meant to be used during a desk audit of the site. This form can be found on the SFSP Program Materials and Required Documents webpage.
Questions? Please contact your program specialist or email summermeals@k12.wa.us.
