Career and Technical Education: Learning that works for Washington

HOT TOPICS

Perkins Carry Over Dollars

Perkins carry over dollars were posted to iGrants at the end of March. Districts and skill centers need to create a budget revision to include the carryover and/or the special project dollars they received from the Perkins "reserve" for a special project.

The 2015-16 Perkins Application should be released before June.

Perkins will receive a reducation in funding for the 2015-16 school year. Districts should factor in a 5% redection when planning to be on the safe side.

Please contact Phouang Hamilton if you have questions or need assistance at 360-725-3645 or phouang.hamilton@k12.wa.us.

Scatter Creek

The Inside/Out Group Donation to the SkillsUSA Aberdeen Chapter

The Inside/Out Group at Stafford Creek Correctional Center presented the Aberdeen SkillsUSA team with a $1,000 check on April 28 to help defer the cost of nationals. Along with the donation, the offenders presented each of the SkillsUSA members with a book, made and signed by members of the Inside/Out Group.

This was an amazing opportunity to see the pride displayed by the offenders, knowing that they were making a positive impact on a group of high school students. As they were heading back to their housing, you would have thought that they were cheering on their favorite sports team as they wished the students good luck at the competition. Clearly this experience was more valuable than the donation itself!

Jesse

2015 FCCLA Japanese Exchange Scholarship

Just imagine how excited Jesse Hannum, a sophomore student from Mead High School and FCCLA member, was to find out he was one of fourteen selected for the 2015 National Japanese Exhange program. He will head to Japan this summer!

The Japanese Exchange is a scholarship opportunity for FCCLA members to travel to Japan for four-to-six weeks as an exchange student. This scholarship is funded by the Kikkoman Corporation, administered by Youth For Understanding USA. Scholarships are worth more than $11,000 each.

Well done and congratulations, Jesse!
