2/3rds amendment

House Joint Resolution (HJR) 4215 - The two-thirds tax amendment requires the Legislature to send a constitutional amendment to the November 2016 ballot that would ask voters if they wish for the Legislature to have a supermajority (two-thirds of both chambers) vote to raise taxes, or allow taxes to be raised by a simple majority of voters. Unfortunately, the Democratic chair in the House Finance Committee has refused to schedule a public hearing for the measure. We tried a procedural motion to bring the resolution straight to the floor for a vote, but it failed on party lines, with Democrats again blocking advancement of the measure.

National Guard Day
=============

National Guard Day in Olympia - Recently we celebrated National Guard Day here at the capitol.  Our nation’s military personnel work hard. We all sleep peacefully in our beds at night because these men and women bravely stand ready to protect us. To our National Guard, veterans, and all active-duty military – thank you for your sacrifice, thank you for your service.

New bathroom rules - Hundreds of parents, grandparents, and concerned constituents have contacted me to voice their thoughts about this issue. The rules, made by the Human Rights Commission just after Christmas with little public notice or input, make it illegal for business owners to limit sex-specific facilities such as bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms.  The Washington Senate committee recently passed, on a 4-3 vote, legislation would reverse this ruling.  I am hopeful this will come to the House floor for a vote.  Read more about Senate Bill 6548 here....

Washington State Patrol

Washington State Patrol - There is on-going work being done in Olympia to help make departmental upgrades and to reverse an increasing shortage of troopers.  Senate Bill 6331 would adjust trooper salaries to always be higher then half of the top-five salaries of local law enforcement agencies in Washington.  Read more by clicking here...
