New Culvert to Eliminate Flooding and Improve Wildlife Habitat

After years of the Little Swamp Creek flooding, there is a new culvert beneath NE 192nd Street between 73rd and 80th Avenues NE. The news design will reduce stream velocities to eliminate overflow and allow for juvenile fish to swim upstream to prime spawning habitat. The stream channel bed includes small pools to allow fish to rest and with benches of rocks to allow toads and other amphibians to find refuge. Plants and vegetation were also specifically selected to promote habitat creation and a healthy stream system.
