March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness month. In 1987, President Ronald Reagan declared a public proclamation - dedicating the month of March to increasing public awareness about the needs and potential of Americans with developmental disabilities. The main goal is for more people to include persons with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life. Another goal is to draw attention to barriers people with disabilities sometimes face when connecting to their communities.

The National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities and their partners work to create a social media campaign that highlights the many ways people with and without disabilities come together to form strong, diverse communities.

The campaign released a DD Awareness Month Resource Guide with tips and resources to  help everyone celebrate the month.
