Gun owners to rally in the Legislative Building Feb. 7

A group of gun owners is expected to hold a rally in the Legislative Building on Saturday, Feb. 7 to protest the Legislature’s decision to prohibit openly carried firearms in the fourth-floor galleries overlooking the House and Senate chambers.

The group is expected to arrive at the Legislative Building around 10 a.m., according to a media release issued this week by the groups organizing the event.

Many participants are expected to openly carry firearms as allowed under state law. There is no prohibition against openly carrying guns in the public spaces of the Legislative Building, including the rotunda, or on the campus grounds.

It is not clear how long the group will remain on the Capitol Campus.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is aware of the event and will be present in the building that day. WSP advises anyone who perceives a threat on the Capitol grounds to call 9-1-1.
