The Fairfax County School Board has adopted the FY 2017 Advertised Budget of $2.67 billion, an increase of 4.8 percent, or $121.4 million, from the FY 2016 Approved Budget. It begins reinvesting in our schools and reverses the impact of the significant cuts sustained since 2008. Key priorities focus on the classroom:

  • Investing in employees, with an emphasis on teacher salaries
  • Reducing class sizes in elementary schools

The Fairfax County School Board will consider starting school before Labor Day for the 2017-18 school year, now that Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) qualifies for a waiver from the post-Labor Day requirement because we have accumulated the requisite number of snow days.  The 2016-17 FCPS school year calendar, adopted in December, remains in effect and designates Tuesday, September 6, 2016, as the first day of school.
