Clark Street Transitway Stations to Open Monday

Service will begin at two of the Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway stations on Monday, Jan. 25, dependent on weather and scheduled bus service. These stops are on South Clark Street between 20th and 23rd Streets and between 23rd and 26th Streets (see F and G on this map). Once the new stations are in use, the nearby temporary stops used during construction will be removed.

What to expect at the new stations:

1) Be aware of the curb height along the bus boarding area - it’s greater than a standard curb to provide near-level boarding with the bus.

- Stand back from the platform edge while waiting for the bus.

Do not step onto or off the higher curb to cross the street, as you could trip and fall. Use crosswalks instead.

2) Receptacles for trash and recyclables are available - help keep the stations clean.
3) Bike racks are available - Racks also are installed on the front of Metroway buses so you can bring your bike with you.

Some station elements remain to be installed. In the spring, when the Transitway is expected to be completed, final transit maps and schedules will be posted (temporary ones are there for now), the shelter artwork will be installed and the real-time arrival displays will be fully operational. You may see work crews in the station area to inspect, repair or otherwise complete construction items – please give them space to work safely.

Reminder: Permanent Closure of 32nd Street Set for Next Friday

The permanent closure of 32nd Street between Route 1 and South Eads Street has been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation and is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29. The street closure is part of the ART Bus Facility construction project.

Closing the street will allow for building expansion and additional bus parking spaces and will improve the efficiency and flow of the new facility. The street closure was approved by the County Board in May 2015.

Due to recent cold temperatures, the contractor did not attempt to place any concrete pavement this week. They have started relocating a stormwater structure and started installing work zone protection for the next phase of construction. Visit project page

Crystal City Potomac Yard Transitway

Construction activities for Saturday, Jan. 23 through Friday, Jan. 29 are described in this week's construction update.

Maintenance of traffic restrictions around the work zones have been temporarily removed to clear paths for plows during this weekend's snow storm. The lane closures listed below for Crystal Drive will be put back in place when weather conditions allow.
