Permanent Closure of 32nd Street Set for Jan. 29
The permanent closure of 32nd Street between Route 1 and South Eads Street has been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation and is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29. Signage will be placed at the site on Friday, Jan. 8, allowing a three-week notice period before the street officially closes.
The street closure is part of the ART Bus Facility construction project. Closing the street will allow for building expansion and additional bus parking spaces and will improve the efficiency and flow of the new facility. The street closure was approved by the County Board in May 2015, and County staff has communicated about the closure through community meetings during the past few months.
ART Bus Facility
The installation of the rainwater collection tank was completed during the holidays. Crews continue to work on the elevator pit, spread foundations and building perimeter foundations. Vertical construction will begin in the next few months.
The bikes lanes on the east side of South Eads Street are currently closed as crews extend the fire line onto the construction site. The bike lanes will reopen by Tuesday next week. Visit project page
