Water Main Repairs on South Clark Street 

Water main repairs on South Clark Street between 20th and 23rd Streets South will take place tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 9, beginning at 9 a.m. Residents can expect water service impacts to buildings 2001, 2111 and 2221 on Jefferson Davis Highway. Water service at 1999 Jefferson Davis Highway may also be affected. 

 

During this work traffic will be reduced to one lane on South Clark Street at 20th Street South. Questions? Contact the Water Control Center at 703-228-6555.

 

Permanent Closure of 32nd Street Set for Jan. 29

The permanent closure of 32nd Street between Route 1 and South Eads Street has been approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation and is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 29. Signage will be placed at the site on Friday, Jan. 8, allowing a three-week notice period before the street officially closes.

 

The street closure is part of the ART Bus Facility construction project. Closing the street will allow for building expansion and additional bus parking spaces and will improve the efficiency and flow of the new facility. The street closure was approved by the County Board in May 2015, and County staff has communicated about the closure through community meetings during the past few months.

 

Construction Updates

ART Bus Facility

The installation of the rainwater collection tank was completed during the holidays. Crews continue to work on the elevator pit, spread foundations and building perimeter foundations. Vertical construction will begin in the next few months.

 

The bikes lanes on the east side of South Eads Street are currently closed as crews extend the fire line onto the construction site. The bike lanes will reopen by Tuesday next week. Visit project page

 

Crystal City Multimodal Center

The contractor is currently demolishing the pavement and sidewalk area underneath the Route 1 overpass. The following traffic pattern changes are now in place:

 

18th Street South

  • Outside lanes on each side of the street are closed between South Eads and Bell Streets. Traffic has been switched to the newly constructed inside lanes. No on-street parking or charter bus parking is available in this area.
  • The south sidewalk (adjacent to eastbound traffic) is closed. Pedestrians should use the north sidewalk closest to the Metro station escalator.

South Clark/Bell Streets: Traffic at the 18th Street intersection has reopened to left turns. Right turns remain unaffected. Visit project page

Pentagon City Pedestrian Tunnel

The tunnel renovation is substantially complete. The County is working on final administrative clearances with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority before the tunnel can open. Updates will be provided when available. Visit project page

 

Detours/Lane Closures 

The following lane closures are due to project construction:

 

Crystal Drive

  • Between 20th and 23rd Streets - Northbound right lane closed. Access to driveways remains open. 
  • From Route 1 up to 26th Street South - Parking and right lanes closed.

18th Street South

  • Outside lanes on each side of the street are closed between South Eads and Bell Streets. No on-street parking or charter bus parking available in this area.
  • South sidewalk (adjacent to eastbound traffic) is closed. Pedestrians should use the north sidewalk closest to the Metro station escalator.
  • Bike lane closed under Route 1 bridge. Cyclists should use caution when riding on 18th Street.

South Clark/Bell Streets

  • Right lane closed between 20th and 23rd Streets, and between 23rd and 26th Streets.
