Construction Updates

Note: This is the final construction update for 2015. Our weekly updates will resume after the start of the new year.

ART Bus Facility

Progress continues at the construction site. The contractor completed installation of the stormwater filtration boxes and one of three electrical vaults and is in the process of installing the rainwater collection tank. Elevator pit, spread foundations and building perimeter foundations have also been started. The building foundations are being bridged with more than five feet of new fill and Geo Grid (mesh fabric used to strengthen the subgrade/soil) which is a lengthy and extensive process. The wash pit and maintenance bay trench drains have also recently been poured.

Crews are finishing the installation of the fire line and fire hydrant valve on South Eads Street – which will allow for the installment of permanent patches on the road to return the lanes to like-new conditions.

Regular Monday through Friday work hours will continue through the holidays; however, no work will take place on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Crystal City Multimodal Center

This week a random water main break occurred in the vicinity of the intersection of 18th Street South and South Bell Street. The water main break is anticipated to be repaired and the area restored by the first part of next week, and then a traffic switch on 18th Street from the outside lanes to the newly constructed inside lanes will likely occur by the end of next week.

Once the traffic pattern change happens, the intersection of 18th Street South and South Bell will allow left turns for drivers traveling north toward the intersection. After the traffic switch the contractor will concentrate on reconstructing the outside eastbound lanes of 18th Street and adjacent sidewalk areas.
