Taking the Time to Grow
*Prepared by Crystal McFadden, LPC, CASY/VetJobs, Pittsburgh Program Manager
A seed does not produce fruit overnight, just as a resume or a LinkedIn contact does not produce an offer letter during initial contact. The pandemic season has created a slew of changes within the hiring space and many have embraced very fast-moving process adaptations. However, some have stood frozen in fear or sat with a laissez faire attitude waiting for “normal” to return and leaving much to be desired in the motivation and movement department.
The key that a few grabbed ahold of and that many are realizing now as we are just over three months in, is that what we do when the doors are closed determines how the keyholders react as the doors open.
During this pandemic and period of social isolation, many opportunity (job/career) seekers have taken the time for personal growth – learning to listen to their bodies and figure out how to relax and recharge. Some have been working harder than they have in a long time due to increased demands and smaller staff at their “essential” places of business. Others have re-evaluated and targeted their professional goals and economic outlook with assessments, training, and networking.
Regardless of how the second quarter has looked for you, if you are an opportunity seeker – motion and achievement is the rhythm you should be setting for your late summer months. CASY/Vet Jobs is partnered with IBM and offers a SkillsBuild learning platform at no cost to veterans, guard, reserve, and spouses. Those working with a CASY/Vet Jobs Career Specialist are eligible to access industry specific learning channels that will compliment current industry skill needs or relevant skills needed for a career pivot.
