SBA seeking 15 Denver Metro area business owners to participate in innovative leadership program

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Colorado District Office is seeking 15 Denver Metro area business executives to register for its Emerging Leaders Initiative that will assist them in creating a tailored three-year strategic growth plan to help elevate their business to the next level.  Eligible executives include the owner or principal in a small business that has annual revenues of at least $400,000; been in business for at least three years; and have at least one employee other than the owner.  The first class begins April 6 and will meet on alternating Monday nights through October.

The curriculum, called the StreetWise Steps™ to Small Business Growth, is comprised of five modules:  Business and Strategy Assessment; Financials; Marketing and Sales; Resources (People, Accessing Capital and Government Contracting); and Strategic Growth Plan presentations.

“The Emerging Leaders Initiative provides owners/principals of high-growth small businesses the opportunity to strategically assess and further develop their business skillsets while participating in a seven month intensive MBA style training program,” said Edward Cadena, SBA’s Colorado District Director.  “This initiative has a tremendously successful track record, and past graduates will attest that their experiences in this program have positively changed the way they do business. We are looking forward to a new class of small business owners that are ready to Step It Up!”

While the executive-level course is free for businesses accepted into the program, executives must commit to approximately 100 total hours of classroom learning, group activities, and homework.  More importantly, the executive must be dedicated to attending 13 evening training sessions and complete all required homework.

SBA is partnering with the City of Aurora and the Aurora SBDC to hold the evening classes; however the program has various local community organizations co-sponsoring this event as well. Small Business owners interested in the program can register now through March 16 by going online at http://www.interise.org/sbaemergingleaders.  The SBA will make the final selection of participants from qualified executives.
