March 3, 10:30 am - What You Don't Know Can Hurt: Protecting Your Business - This FREE 2 hour SBA workshop will show you how what you don't know can tarnish your business reputation, lead to business losses, hurt the employer/employee relationship in monetary and non-monetary ways. It is important for you to know how to protect your interests, avoid costly time-consuming complaints, and where to go for help in understanding your responsibilities under the law. Do you know the employment laws that affect your business? Do you know the consequences of non-compliance? Could your business be at risk? Are you creating a health environment to grow your business? The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission will provide resources and information to guide employers on preventing and addressing employment discrimination.

March 4, 9:30 am - Develop An Import/Export Business - This 6 hour workshop, sponsored by SCORE Atlanta will help you gain the knowledge to develop and implement an international plan. You will become acquainted with the key components of an effective import/export plan. The instructors will raise questions you should answer to complete your plan and provide the resources to help you answer those questions.  Discussions will include: organizational and product readiness; market research; guidance for developing your strategy and marketing plan; promoting your products in target market; and complying with US and foreign regulations. Cost is $89.

March 7, 5:30 pm - Simple Steps for Starting Your Small Business - This FREE 2 hour SBA workshop is for young entrepreneurs and focuses on the basics of testing your business idea and identifying the key factors that influence start-up success. Start-up Basics provides you with an overview of the skills and tools needed when deciding to start a business. In this module you will learn: the advantages and challenges of owning a business; the most logical structure for your business; the fundamentals of formation and organization; critical success factors; business rolls and responsibilities; and the importance of a business plan.

March 8, 10 am - Simple Steps 1: Start Up Basics - This FREE 2.5 hour workshop, sponsored by SCORE Atlantafocuses on the concept of testing your business idea and identifying the key factors that influence start-up success. Start-up Basics provides you with an overview of the skills and tools you need when deciding to start a business. In this module, you will introduced to: advantages and disadvantages of owning a business; most profitable legal form for your business; the fundamentals of formation; organization; marketing; cash flow; and funding sources.

March 9, 10 am - 8(a) and Hubzone Eligibility Workshop - This FREE 2 hour SBA workshop  provides an overview of the requirements for eligible small businesses to participate in the 8(a) and the Hubzone programs, along with other procurement related information.

March 10, 10 am - SBA Women and Veteran's Federal Contracting Program - This FREE 2 hour SBA workshop will provide information on for women and veteran owned small business owners who are interested in doing business with the Federal government. Information will be provided on eligibility requirements for service disabled veteran-owned small businesses, the Veterans Advantage Loan Program, eligibility requirements for the women-owned small business contracting program, and how the WOSB program can provide significant opportunities for women entrepreneurs.

March 11, 10 am - Legal Risks Every Business Owner Must Know - This 2.5 hour workshop, sponsored by SCORE Atlanta, will provide information on legal issues that all would-be entrepreneurs need to address. This workshop will cover these issues - from the decision regarding the legal structure of your new business to making sure that you have taken all prudent steps to avoid unnecessary litigation. Having an original idea for a new business is great, but it is imperative that you educate yourself about the laws affecting that business or industry. You could find yourself in contravention of regulations or, worse, facing a costly lawsuit. Regardless of the factual circumstances, the average lawsuit can cripple a growing business. So why not avoid it? Do you know what type of corporation that affords your business the most flexibility while offering the utmost legal protection? Do you know what types of written agreements might best protect your company? Do you need contracts for your employees and contractors? Each of these questions and many more can be answered through a little research and education. At the end of the Business Concept workshop, you are able to: identify your target markets, describe your products and services, and collect key competitive information to support your feasibility plan. March 17, 10 am - Overview of SBA Programs and Services - This FREE 3 hour SBA workshop will enable you to gain a better understanding of the various SBA programs and services that are available to potential and existing entrepreneurs who need assistance in starting or expanding their small business adventure. March 18, 10 am - Business Essentials for Non Profits - This 2.5 hour workshop, sponsored by SCORE Atlanta, will discuss non-profit and for-profit common elements, establishing and operating a successful non-profit business requires some unique knowledge and skills. The fact is, establishing a non-profit business in the state of Georgia is easier said than done. In this workshop, the instructor offers a fresh perspective for both the financial and operational strategy, incorporating foundational business concepts. Every non-profit organization requires a comprehensive business model that determines key systems, and maps the attainable milestones in order to achieve realistic, yet highly-impactful results. The workshop demonstrates how to successfully apply the appropriate theories and best practices for building viable revenue streams. Your ability to raise revenues for your non-profit will be critical, and a second workshop will be offered that focuses on fund-raising. First, however, you need to be aware of all the critical issues before completing your initial government application. March 18, 9 am - Mini Business Plan - This 3 hour workshop, sponsored by SCORE Atlanta, will focus on the components of a successful business plan: Clear, succinct writing style Compelling business description Importance of market research Effective development of meaningful financial projections The plan consists of four sections: Business Description, Management and Operations, Marketing and Sales and Financial Projections. Also included is an application for funding along with a discussion of funding resources, both conventional and alternative. The workshop teaches you to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of your business and your competition. It will help you determine the overall feasibility of the plan. The important aspects of starting and operating a business will be discussed along with applying financial data to the decision processes. The program includes handouts that are valuable resources in writing a successful business plan. Cost is $25.
