Thanks for Observing National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day!

Thank you for joining us in observing the 10th National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD)!

This year:

• Caregivers, health care providers, and women of all ages living with and fighting HIV/AIDS shared personal stories to help reduce stigma.
• We worked with partners and organizations to identify women’s health milestones of the last 10 years in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
• We hosted two events — the Advances and Opportunities in HIV/AIDS for Women and Girls panel discussion (view photos!) and the Red Shoe and Red Lipstick HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk (view photos!).
• A total of 152 supporters joined our Thunderclap, for a social reach of more than 1.1 million people.
• A total of 9,026 tweets about NWGHAAD reached more than 9.4 million users.
• Eleven inspirational Ambassadors promoted NWGHAAD.

Highlights included: 

• NWGHAAD stories appeared in U.S. News & World Report, Everyday Health, Voxxi, and other media across the country.
• The Office of National AIDS Policy, the Office of the Vice President, and the White House Council on Women and Girls hosted Stepping Out of the Shadows, Together for Women and Girls.
• District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser and U.S. Surgeon General VADM Vivek H. Murthy made the closing remarks at the Red Shoe and Red Lipstick HIV/AIDS Awareness Walk on March 10.
• Dr. Nancy C. Lee wrote the blog post HIV/AIDS: In Their Own Words.
• We produced the #10on10 infocard series for women and girls.

Even though National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is over, we encourage you to host events throughout the month of March. We hope you’ll continue to increase awareness, reduce stigma, offer support, and share information about the importance of HIV/AIDS prevention, care, and treatment.
