It's Time to #GetCovered! Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment

November 15 kicked off the start of a new open enrollment period for the Health Insurance Marketplace. Once again millions of Americans can compare and buy health insurance plans through HealthCare.gov, the call center or in-person assistance. Consumers purchasing or renewing plans on the Marketplace will find an increase in their options for coverage this year, and many may qualify for cost savings. 

Join the 10.3 million Americans who have gained health coverage through the Marketplace.

December 15 is the last day to renew or sign up to get coverage that starts on January 1. The open enrollment period ends February 15. Enroll today!

$31 Million to Enhance Diversity of Biomedical Research Workforce

A research workforce that reflects the diversity of America is a critical step in reducing health disparities. More still needs to be done to understand how to better engage minorities in research careers. The National Institutes of Health announced nearly $31 million in funds for workforce development approaches that engage researchers, including those from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical sciences. These awards will support a national consortium of organizations working to encourage individuals to start and stay in biomedical research careers. New Health Disparities and Advocacy Curriculum for High School Students

A new curriculum aims to empower high school students as advocates and promoters of better health in their communities. Project SHARE, made possible by a grant from the National Library of Medicine, is a collaboration between the University of Maryland Health Science and Human Services Library and Baltimore’s Vivien T. Thomas Medical Arts Academy. The free curriculum includes lesson plans, assignments and experiential learning activities related to understanding health disparities and health and wellness promotion.
