  • USDA/Food and Nutrition Service: FY15 Rural Child Poverty Center Grant. This Cooperative Agreement will award funds to establish a national center dedicated to reducing child food insecurity in persistently poor rural counties. Deadline is December 1, 2014. Learn more.

  • Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Preterm Birth Initiative. To be eligible, the principal investigator must have a faculty appointment at a degree-granting institution in the US or Canada. Deadline is December 1, 2014. Learn more
  • American Physical Therapy Association (APTA): Minority Initiatives Awards. This award recognizes planned, comprehensive initiatives that assist in the recruitment, admission, retention, and graduation of minority students, and/or initiatives designed to sustain or increase the number of minority faculty recruited, employed, and retained.   • National Gardening Association and KidsGardening.org: 2015 Youth Garden Grant. Awards funds to schools or non-profit organizations that demonstrate a relationship between a garden program and education related to the environment, health and nutrition issues, and character education. Scholarships / Fellowships

  • Medical Library Association (MLA): Donald A. B. Lindberg Research Fellowship. This fellowship will fund research aimed at expanding the knowledge base linking information services provided by librarians to improved health care and advances in biomedical research. Deadline is November 15, 2014.   • National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and the National Hispanic Health Foundation (NHHF): Medical Student Leadership and Mentoring Program. This program offers an opportunity to work one-on-one with a Physician Mentor and gain knowledge around the challenges and transformation of health care for Hispanics and other underserved populations. Deadline is November 21, 2014.   • HHS/Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Health Insurance Marketplace: Open Enrollment for 2015 coverage starts November 15, 2014. Learn about the Marketplace and see if you qualify for savings or for a Special Enrollment Period. Learn more
  • Internal Revenue Service (IRS): New resource. Affordable Care Act (ACA) Tax Provisions/Disposiciones Tributarias de la Ley de Cuidado de Salud a Bajo Precio. The IRS has created new options for Spanish speakers to get information about the tax provisions of the ACA to inform and educate the public on how the health care law may affect them. EnglishEspañol

American Indian/Alaska Native Health

  • HHS/NIH: Request for nominations for the Tribal Consultation Advisory Committee (TCAC). The NIH TCAC will provide a venue for tribal representatives and NIH staff to exchange information about NIH research policies and program priorities.   • National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD): New resource. Do You Need a Hearing Test?/Diez maneras de detectar la pérdida del oído. NIDCD has created English- and Spanish-language bookmarks that provide patients with 10 ways to recognize whether they should get their hearing evaluated by a medical professional.   • HHS/Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHQR): New resource. AHRQ Quality Indicators™ Toolkit for Hospitals. This toolkit helps acute-care facilities improve inpatient quality performance, including determining where gaps exist and suggestions for improvement, process steps and additional resources. Updated CDC Guidance: Monitoring Symptoms and Controlling Movement to Stop the Spread of EbolaThis fact sheet explains CDC’s updated Monitoring and Movement guidance to protect Americans from Ebola.
