The HHS Office of Minority Health has released three new funding opportunity announcements.
Opportunity Title: National Health Education Lupus Program (NHELP) Announcement Number: MP-CPI-16-001 Estimated Funding Level: $2 million total ($1 million total for each priority)
Opportunity Title: Communities Addressing Childhood Trauma (ACT) Announcement Number: MP-CPI-16-002 Estimated Funding Level: $3 million per budget period
Opportunity Title: Re-Entry Community Linkages (RE-LINK) Program Announcement Number: MP-CPI-16-003 Estimated Funding Level: $2 million per budget period

In the wake of the public health crisis in Flint, MI, HHS has been on the ground to lead the federal government response and recovery efforts. U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, U.S. Suregon General Dr. Vivek Murthy, HHS Deputy Assistant Secretary for Minority Health and OMH Director Dr. J. Nadine Gracia, and other HHS officials traveled to Flint last month to hear first handfrom members of the community and to share resources that are being made available to them. |

Last week, I traveled to Flint to hear from members of the community about the challenges that they are facing and to share information about the federal government's work to respond. And I had the chance to meet Cynthia, a working mom with a 6-year-old son.
Cynthia had heard about Flint's water on the news, but she didn't think going to the doctor was something she needed to do. And working two jobs made it hard to find the time.

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has released the Black Health Care Chartbook as part of a family of documents and tools that support the National Healthcare Quality and Disparities Report (QDR). The chartbook includes a summary of trends across measures of black/African American health care from the QDR. A PowerPoint version is also available that users can download for presentations. Open Enrollment ended on January 31 with about 12.7 million Americans having selected plans through Health Insurance Marketplaces, including 3.1 million who signed up through State-based Marketplaces and over 9.6 million through the HealthCare.gov platform. This does not include about 400,000 people who signed up on the New York and Minnesota Marketplaces for coverage through the Basic Health Program during this Open Enrollment. Healthy Eating in 20 Languages
The popular MyPlate nutrition icon, designed to promote healthier eating, is available in 20 different languages, including Spanish, Chinese (simplified and traditional), Vietnamese, French and Korean. The multilingual icons were developed by the USDA's Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) in partnership with the HHS Office of Minority Health.

Pregnancy Provider Training
The Healthier Pregnancy Tool was designed to assist providers in implementing the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommendations around obesity, alcohol, depression and other issues in prenatal and perinatal care settings. The training module reflects a partnership between HHS, AHRQ, HRSA, SAMHSA and The Ohio State University.
Supporting LGBTQ Youth
As part of the Preconception Peer Educators program, Northwest Network of Bisexual, Transgender, Lesbian & Gay Survivors of Abuse presented February 9 on Supporting LGBTQ Youth: What Peer Educators Need to Know. Speakers Shannon Perez-Darby and Fatima Arain discussed innovative approaches to engaging LGBTQ youth on the subject of health and health care. The Northwest Network also shared information about its curriculum and explored what peer educators can do to support LGBTQ youth. Watch the webinar replay.
