MEP's FY 2016 Proposed Budget

On Monday, President Obama released the Fiscal Year 2016 federal budget proposal to Congress outlining his priorities for the coming year. In releasing the budget, the President said he wanted to ensure that we “invest in America’s future and commit to an economy that rewards hard work, generates rising incomes, and allows everyone to share in the prosperity of a growing America.”

NIST and NIST MEP are part of this effort to ensure a growing economy. The President has proposed a fiscal year budget for NIST of $1.1 billion, which is $255.8 million above the FY 2015 enacted level and $141 million for MEP, which is $11 million above the FY 2015 budget.

For NIST, the largest portion of the requested increase, $150 million, would support two new National Network for Manufacturing Innovation hubs coordinated by NIST and created to accelerate development and adoption of cutting edge manufacturing technologies.

"Make it in America" Manufacturer of the Week!

Make it in America
"NEPIRC worked with our engineering department to find ways to reduce the time needed to design specialty products and streamline our production. Now, we have newly implemented processes that shorten the lead-time for customized products. We have also recently hosted a meeting for the Manufacturing Executive Network, formed by NEPIRC.”

Cheetah Chassis, a division of the Strick Group, has been manufacturing container chassis for the world’s largest intermodal shipping lines for over 30 years. The custom trailers and container chassis manufactured by Cheetah carry freight over the highways throughout North America. Their Berwick facility is in the midst of a $2.5 million expansion that will enable the company to produce fabricated I-beams and other structures that are currently not available from outside vendors.

Visit the NIST MEP public site to learn more about this company and how the center is helping them grow.
