Georgia Faces of Manufacturing

Faces of Manufacturing

On December 9th, GaMEP hosted a luncheon for more than 45 people to celebrate the 2015 Faces of Manufacturing. Keynote speakers included Dr. Bud Peterson, President of Georgia Tech, Karen Fite, Director of the GaMEP, and Dr. Ben Wang, Executive Director of the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute (GTMI). Attendees included the Faces, as well as representatives from congressional offices across Georgia, and partners from around the state. At the commencement of the luncheon, a tour was provided of GTMI and the Invention Studio, a student run makers studio on Georgia Tech’s campus.

Additionally, today the founders of Honeysuckle Gelato, Wes Jones, Jackson Smith, and Khatera Ballard, were named the December Faces of Manufacturing. In the past four years they have grown to manufacture and distribute to more than 100 restaurants and 85 retail locations across the Southeast. Additionally in the past six months, they signed a deal with Delta to put their gelato in the first class section of cross country flights and have opened their first retail location in Ponce City Market. Those two deals alone have doubled their manufacturing output.

Read their story as they talk about how they started their successful business and what the future looks like.

And watch their video as they talk about their vested interest in giving back to their community, including hiring staff from the City of Refuge and donating more than 13,500 meals to the Atlanta Community Food Bank in the past six weeks.
