New NIST MEP Deputy Director

Dr. David Cranmer has been selected to be the new Deputy Director of NIST MEP, pending approval from the Department of Commerce and the Office of Personnel Management.

 

Dave has been with NIST since 1986 where he has held positions as a scientific researcher and supervisory engineer for mechanical properties in the Ceramics Division. Dave also served in the NIST Director’s program office as a senior program analyst. He has been with NIST MEP since 1993 and has served in various positions including Associate Director of Program Planning and Policy, Industrial Marketing Systems Manager, Strategic Partnerships Manager and Regional Account Manager. In Dave’s most recent capacity he has proven to be an effective leader on the B2B pilot projects and is our primary point of contact on our technology acceleration services.

Over the next two months MEP is hosting two regional forums in San Francisco, Ca and Atlanta, Ga to provide entities more information about the MEP program and the upcoming announcement of funding availability for 12 MEP Centers. Launching a Technology Scouting Co-op Program for College Engineering Students

Don't miss the next MEP Perspectives: Tech Scouting and TDMI Community of Practice on Monday, October 5th at 2:00 p.m. EDT to hear Roger Gehring from the University of Wisconsin-Stout Manufacturing Outreach Center talk about his experiences launching a co-op program for college engineering students to assist with Technology Scouting projects.

Also, mark your calendars for Wednesday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. EDT, as Tony Maslowski from the Manufacturers Resource Center in Pennsylvania will be discussing an Open Innovation tool set that has been developed by the Pennsylvania MEP to support Technology Advisors during the pre-project information due diligence process. The tool set incorporates the RTI ‘Right & Ready’ and ‘Technology Needs Assessment’ along with other formats.

September 16: Peter Miles from GENEDGE showcased how he worked with a team to apply TDMI for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Secretary of Technology on unmanned systems.

August 5: Cary Strickland from RTI International provided tips on using the Tech Scouting and TDMI tools to guide early client discussions.

July 22: Louise Aitcheson from the Center for Economic Growth (CEG) described how the TDMI service provided market insights in the compounding pharmacy market for a startup company.
