November is National Diabetes Month!

The NDEP encourages you to visit its National Diabetes Month page at YourDiabetesInfo.org/DiabetesMonth2015 to find resources and materials to support your Diabetes Month outreach efforts. This year, the NDEP is highlighting the need for ongoing diabetes education and support among people with diabetes and those who care for them with the theme Diabetes Education and Support: Everyone Has a Role. What’s Yours?

It's also National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month

Diabetes is more common in American Indians and Alaska Natives. The NDEP’s We Have the Power to Prevent Diabetes and Taking Care of Your Diabetes Means Taking Care of Your Heart tip sheets can help American Indians and Alaska Natives learn how to lower their risk for type 2 diabetes. Download NDEP’s American Indian/Alaska Native Fat and Calorie Counter, a list of foods commonly eaten by American Indians and Alaska Natives to help them keep track of fat grams and calories eaten. Additional publications and materials tailored for American Indian and Alaska Native populations can be found here.

Promoting Medication Adherence in Diabetes

NDEP's Promoting Medication Adherence in Diabetes web resource has information to help health care professionals improve medication-taking behavior in their patients. The Resources for Patients section has resources for health care professionals to use with their patients to promote medication-taking behavior.

NDEP News & Notes is Moving in January 2016

In an effort to provide our readers with a more comprehensive digest of diabetes-related information, updates from the NDEP will now be featured as part of e-news coming from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). Please continue to follow NDEP on our Twitter and Facebook channels. Also, for more information about NIDDK and its many offerings, please consider following NIDDK’s Twitter and Facebook channels. NDEP thanks you for your continued support and hope you find this effort to consolidate diabetes-related information in one place more useful.

Diabetes & the Flu

It’s flu shot season, and the NDEP reminds you that people with diabetes are at high risk for serious flu complications. The best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated each year. Encourage everyone – especially people with diabetes – to get a flu shot.
