Traumatic Brain Injury awareness month highlights resources

March is intended to remind us of the serious impact of Traumatic Brain Injuries, or TBI, throughout our population. You may ask yourself, "Why is this important to me?"

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, also known as CDC, reports that approximately 2.5 million emergency room visits, hospitalizations, or deaths were associated with a singular TBI or a combination of a TBI and additional sources of injury.

Face of Defense: Air Force Staff Sergeant Beats Cancer
Feb. 27, 2015

For many people, Independence Day is all about celebration, spending time with family and watching fireworks light up the night sky. But for Air Force Staff Sgt. Richard L. Johnson, July 4, 2014, was not a day for celebrating.

On that day, just two months after his daughter, Ayda, was born, the 660th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron KC-10 crew chief learned he had cancer.

Sentinel Event Spotlight: Identifying the Different Process Nodes
March 2, 2015

This Sentinel Event Spotlight will focus on sentinel events within the Military Health System related to medication errors. The different process nodes, such as prescribing, dispensing, administering, documenting, and monitoring will also be addressed. Most of the actual medication events originate in one of these five nodes. Associated causal and contributing factors will also be addressed along with evidence-based recommendations.
