Chief Information Officer Bowen reflects on MHS progress in first 22 months

The Military Health System is engaged in a comprehensive modernization effort that includes building an electronic health record, said David Bowen, director of the Health Information Directorate for the Defense Health Agency and chief information officer for MHS. In a July 31 speech to the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Health Summit in Washington, D.C., Bowen reflected on some of DHA’s key accomplishments since its inception.

World Breast-feeding Week spotlights lifelong benefits of nursing

The Military Health System joins medical organizations and communities around the world to celebrate World Breast-feeding Week from Aug. 1 - 7. The goal is to promote optimal health for mothers and newborns by providing families with a better understanding about the benefits of nursing a child. Breast-feeding also supports the MHS concept of moving from “health care to health.”

New Horizons Medical Team supports personnel, local Hondurans

The 15-person medical team is made up of a general surgeon, anesthesiologist, operating room nurse, emergency medicine provider, biomedical equipment technician and 10 emergency medical technicians. The team’s primary mission is to support all exercise personnel with point-of-injury immediate care before transfer to a main mobile forward surgical team.
