The Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP) and the Trust for the National Mall are pleased to announce a collaboration that will allow nearly 50 of VHP’s veteran participants’ stories to be accessed through a new World War II Memorial mobile app. The Trust for the National Mall launched the mobile app as part of its 21st Century Learning Initiative to preserve the living history of the National Mall for future generations. Among other capabilities, the app will allow users to virtually explore the World War II Memorial, learn about World War II, understand how their state contributed to the war and discover stories about those who served—selfless members of the “Greatest Generation.”
Download the free app directly from any mobile device using iTunes or Google Play or from the following website, http://nationalmall.org/learning/world-war-ii-memorial-app.
In addition to the World War II Memorial mobile app, the Trust is also hosting an online contest to win a three-day trip to Washington, DC for the July 4th holiday. To participate, go to www.monumental4th.org, answer, “What does the National Mall mean to you?” and submit an optional photo or video. Then encourage family and friends to vote for your entry.
The Mission of the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center is to collect, preserve and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Learn more at www.loc.gov/vets. Share your exciting VHP initiatives, programs, events, and news stories with VHP to be considered for a future RSS.
